Bridget married Joseph MOLLOY, son of Martin MOLLOY and Anne 'UNKNOWN', on 8 Jul 1918 in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. Joseph was born in 1878 in possibly Derrynargon, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. He died on 10 Apr 1948 in Hollymount, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon. He was buried in Ardcarne Cemetery, Hollymount, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon.

According to his marriage certificate, Joseph was a farmer and lived in Derrynargon, Carrick-on-Shannon.

Joseph, Linda and their family lived in Hollymount, near Carrick-on-Shannon.

161. Thomas (Tom) J. MORAHAN (Margaret O'HARA , Laurence , Laurence ) was born on 24 Jan 1891 in Cloonfeacle, Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. He was christened on 25 Jan 1891 in Kiltoghert, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. He died on 10 Apr 1949 in Dublin. He was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin.

Thomas was a primary school teacher. In 1912 he was appointed principal of Annaduff National School outside Carrick-on-Shannon. However, the locals objected to the job going to an outsider, so they organised a boycott. A drum would sound in protest every morning at 10 o'clock; parents withdrew their children and sent them to other schools further away; the school was broken into and record books were taken; and Tom had to escorted to and from school by gardaí from Dromad and Dromsna stations. Tensions ran high for at least a year, but, thanks to the intervention of another teacher in the school, parents eventually started sending their children back, and Tom continued to teach at Annaduff until shortly before his death in 1949 at the age of 58.

Thomas married Mary LAYDEN / LEYDEN, daughter of Michael LAYDEN, on 7 Aug 1918 in St. Patrick's Church, Drumkeeran, Co. Leitrim. Mary was born about 1886. She died on 30 Jun 1976 in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. She was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin.

Mary was a member of the Layden family which owned the Arigna coalmine in Co. Roscommon. According to her marriage certificate, she was a primary school teacher from Spencer Harbour; her father was a farmer. Witnesses to the marriage were Joseph Doyle and Tessie Layden. It is believed Mary and her huusband, Tom Morahan, were in some way related but I have been unable to establish exactly how. I am told Mary and Tom lived in the old Morahan family home in Cloonfeacle until Tom's death in 1949 (although the farm portion of the 23-acre property had been sold in the 1930s). However, the death certificate of their 17-year-old daughter Bernadette (who died in 1942) gives her home address as Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon. It is believed Mary may have moved to Dublin after Tom's death.

They had the following children.

+ 320 M i Kevin MORAHAN was born about 1919. He died.
+ 321 F ii Veronica (Vera) MORAHAN was born in 1921. She died in Jul 1998.

Bernadette entered the convent, joining the Dominican order in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. She died very soon afterwards however of sarcoma of the thigh aged just 17.

164. Evelyn Mary O'HARA (Laurence , Laurence , Laurence ) was born about 13 Jul 1889 in probably Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She was christened on 13 Jul 1889 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She died in 1954.

Evelyn married James (Jim) GLYNN, son of Patrick GLYNN, on 1 Mar 1916 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. James was born in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. He died.

Jim was from Oxhill, Knockvicar, Boyle, Co. Roscommon, where he and Evelyn lived after their marriage.

Note: There is a record of a marriage of a Thomas Glynn and Elizabeth Logan in Cootehall on 16 February 1880. Thomas's father's name was Patrick and Thomas's address was given as what looks like 'Cuidera'. Were Jim and Thomas related?

They had the following children.

  323 F i
Margaret (Peggy) GLYNN was born in Knockvicar, Boyle, Co. Roscommon. She died in 2003 in Dublin. She was buried in Co. Roscommon.

Peggy was a nurse. She never married.

Kathleen (Sr. Evelyn) GLYNN was born in 1929 in Knockvicar, Boyle, Co. Roscommon. She died on 7 Mar 2013 in Cork.

Kathleen was a sister in the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (OCSO), an enclosed order.  According to her obituary in the St. Mary's Abbey newsletter, she inherited musical talent from her mother, Evelyn, and studied in England, obtaining a Licentiate from the Guild Hall of Music, London, and a second Diploma from Trinity College of Music, London. She taught music in England for a time before returning to Ireland in 1957 when he entered the OCSO convent at St. Mary's Abbey, Glencairn, Lismore, Co. Waterford. She made First Profession on 27 December 1959 and Solemn Profession exactly three years later. Known as Sr. Evelyn she spent most of the rest of her life at St. Mary's.

168. Bridget (Bertha) O'HARA (Laurence , Laurence , Laurence ) was born about 14 Dec 1896 in probably Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She was christened on 14 Dec 1896 in Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She died on 1 Oct 1948 in 94 Lower Leeson St., Dublin. She was buried on 4 Oct 1948 in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin (grave OH 71.5, St. Bridget's).

Bertha seems to be listed as Delia Mary in the 1911 census.

Bertha and her husband, Michael, may also have had a daughter named Mary.

Bridget married Michael B. FOLEY, son of Michael FOLEY, on 26 Jul 1928 in Cootehall, Boyle, Co. Roscommon. Michael died.

After Michael and Bertha married they lived in Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. I have been told that Michael worked as a schoolteacher in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone and would return home to Clegna at weekends. However, his marriage certificate tells us he was a civil engineeer (with an address in Dungannon) so it appears he was not a teacher.

They had the following children.

Austin FOLEY was born about 1930 in probably Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. He died on 14 Jul 1950 in Dublin. He was buried on 17 Jul 1950 in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin (grave OH 72, St. Bridget's).

Austin was only 19 years of age when he died.

Catherine (Kitty) FOLEY was born in probably Clegna, Cootehall, Co. Roscommon. She died in 1976.

Kitty and her husband, Gordon, were first cousins through the O'Haras. Their mothers were sisters.

Catherine married Lawrence Gordon (Gordon) DOYLE, son of Arthur Peter DOYLE and Mary Catherine (Kathleen) O'HARA. Lawrence was born about 1929 in New Ross, Co. Wexford. He died in 2007. He was buried in New Ross, Co. Wexford.

Gordon lived in New Ross. He remarried following the death of his first wife, Kitty. He had no children with Kitty, and three with his second wife, Mary.

Kathleen was a nurse. Prior to her marriage she worked in St. Vincent's Hosptal in Dublin.

Mary married Arthur Peter DOYLE, son of Arthur Joseph DOYLE and Mary Jane 'UNKNOWN', on 24 Jun 1926 in Dublin. Arthur was born about 1891 in New Ross, Co. Wexford. He died on 10 May 1974. He was buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery, New Ross, Co. Wexford.

Arthur and Kathleen met as a result of match-making efforts by Kathleen's aunt Sr. Jerome Gordon. Sr. Jerome worked in St. Vincent's Hospital in Dublin where Arthur's father, also named Arthur, was a patient. Knowing that Arthur senior had eligible sons, she arranged for Kathleen, who was a nurse, to look after him in New Ross when he was discharged from St. Vincent's.

After their marriage, Kathleen and Arthur lived in New Ross, Co. Wexford.

They had the following children.
