The O’Connors pictured below are descended from Patrick Connors (the family used the name Connors or Connor until the early 20th century), believed to have been born about 1800 in the townland of Dirreen Lower in the parish of Athea, Co. Limerick. Patrick had a brother or cousin named Maurice Connors who lived in Mountcollins, Co. Limerick so it is possible Patrick’s family had Mountcollins origins. Patrick and his wife, believed to have been Mary Dalton of Athea, settled in Kilbaha in the nearby parish of Newtownsandes (now named Moyvane), Co. Kerry, where a number of descendants of theirs still live.
It appears that Patrick and Mary had at least nine children, including William who married Johanna Cunningham in 1871. William and Johanna had six children, including Patrick, Mary Anne, Jack and Edmond who are pictured below along with some of their descendants. William and Johanna’s two other children were Bryan who died at the age of 16 and Michael who died aged 31.
