Hussey family

HUSSEY Thomas, Mary and family sharpened

Thomas Hussey, pictured here with his wife, Mary (née Butler), and four of their children, was born in 1864 in Kensington, London to builder Thomas Hussey and his wife, Agnes Devine. Thomas junior also became a builder.

Thomas and Mary married in 1886 and raised seven children in Kensington and later Hammersmith, London: Mary (pictured here standing between her parents), Tom (standing in front of Mary), Kate (on her father's lap), Robert (whom we believe is pictured here, sitting on his mother's lap),  Ted, Laurence and Eileen. Mary, who was known as Mamie, became a civil servant in the Department of Social Welfare; we know that Kate lived in Wimbledon and Barnes in London; Robert worked in the leather processing business and lived in Putney, London; Laurence also lived in Putney; and Eileen, who became a teacher, lived in Wimbledon. Sadly, both Tom and Ted died young, Tom in 1909 at the age of 19 and Ted at Passchendaele in 1917 aged 22. Their father too died relatively young, in 1916 at the age of 51.
