Descendants of Sťamus Sullivan

Jerry O'Sullivan

Jeremiah (known as Jerry) O’Sullivan, was born sometime around the 1920s in Kilquane, Mourneabbey, Co. Cork to Denis O'Sullivan and Mary Sweeney.

As a young man Jerry lived in England where he enjoyed a successful boxing career, knocking out his opponent in the first round in 21 consecutive fights and earning himself the nickname 'One Round Sully'. He eventually decided to join his two brothers, Jim and Eugene, cutting cane on the farm of their uncle Eugene (O'Sullivan) in Far North Queensland, Australia.
Jerry later moved to Sydney where he established a successful painting and decorating business, employing many young Irish men who had come to Australia looking for work in the 1950s. Jim and Eugene, his brothers, also moved to Sydney from Queensland, and all three were very well known among Sydney’s Irish community.

Jerry married Noeline Logue and they had two children. He was a nephew of Ellen Treacy and a probable second cousin of Sr. Columbanus Lynch (see previous photos).
