James G. Gordon was born about 1855 in Fairymount, Co. Roscommon. He was the 12th of the 14 children of Patrick Gordon and Mary French. The ‘G’ in James’s name possibly stood for Granville.
James and his sister Ellen married siblings from Frenchpark: James married May Cullen in 1881 and Ellen married May's brother, Patrick around 1883. James and May had 12 children.
At the time of the 1901 census, James and his family were living in Grallagh in Fairymount, where James ran a farm. By the time of the 1911 census the family was living in Quarrymount, Kilclooney, Co. Galway.
James died about 1939 aged 84, outliving May by about 29 years.
