GORDON May Cullen Gordon


May Cullen was born about 1855 in Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon to John Cullen and his wife (see previous photos). In 1881 May married James G. Gordon from Fairymount, Co. Roscommon, and they had 12 children: Ethel, Laura, Delia, Patrick, twins John and Freda, Willie, Frank, Jo, Maude, Gertie and Ivy. Delia and Patrick died young; Ethel married Tom Feehan; Laura and Freda never married; John married Mary (surname unknown) and lived in the U.S.; Willie died in France in World War I; Frank farmed in Kilclooney, Tuam, Co. Galway and was married to Amy Ffrench-Lynch; Jo lived in the U.S. and was married to Arthur Selleck; Maude married Harold Lowey; Gertie married Dan Hegarty; and Ivy married Hal Hosty.

May, James and their family lived initially in Grallagh, Fairymount, Co. Roscommon. They later moved to Kilclooney, Co. Galway where they lived in Quarrymount (also known as Kilclooney House), one of the finest small country house estates in Co. Galway.

May was only about 44 years of age when she died in 1904. James died about 1939 aged about 84.
