She was christened on 26 Jul 1877 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died on 7 Feb 1937 in Derry, Listowel, Co. Kerry. She was buried in St. Michael's Cemetery, Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Civil records give a birth date of 3 August 1877 for Nora but this is incorrect. When one has differing birth and baptismal records one should use the information from the batismal record as births at that time, especially in rural areas, were often not registered until well after the event and incorrect birth dates were sometimes given, either because the exact date was forgotten or to avoid a fine for not registering a birth within the required time limit.

Nora's baptismal sponsors were William Hudson and Johanna Hudson.

Nora died of a cerebral haemorrhage aged 59.

Hanora married Daniel (Dan) LYONS, son of Thomas LYONS and Ellen GRADY, on 4 Mar 1905 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Daniel was born about 20 Jan 1865 in Derry, Listowel, Co. Kerry. Pat lived in Kilbaha before moving to live with his brother Jim at Knockbrane (or Knockbrean) Cross in Lixnaw, Co. Kerry. Neither Pat nor Jim ever married.

Pat appears to have been a significant point of contact for Hudson researcher Bill Hudson who has contributed an enormous amount of information to our Hudson family tree. According to Bill's notes, "While on a visit to Dublin, I saw this book ["County Kerry - Past and Present" by J. King, published by Hodges Figgis & Co., 1931] in Dublin Castle and discovered on page 176, the mention of two Hudson families. While I had been in Tralee in 1929 when my Father called on one Richard Hudson solicitor there (who later proved to be a third cousin), I had never heard of Kilbaha. Procuring Ordnance maps of the area, I hired a car and driver and... I landed up in Kilbaha, near Newton Sandes (now Moyvane) on 27 May 1956 and met Patrick Hudson [above] who had just come home from the creamery and who introduced me to his 78 year old Father John (Jack) Hudson. Later I drove up the hill to meet the Ned Hudsons [presumably Jack's first cousin Ned Hudson who was married to Hannie Hanrahan, herself a Hudson descendant]. From that point, I was hooked and the rest is history".
+ 197 F iii Margaret (Peg) HUDSON was born about 1919. She died on 18 Dec 2003.

Kerry. He died on 18 Jun 1947 in London. He was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Leytonstone, London.

Sponsors at Jim's baptism were James Casey and Catherine Casey.

Jim followed in his elder brother Richard's footsteps and worked as a policeman in England. He joined the Metropolitan Police in 1905 and spent 25 years in the force before retiring in 1930. The 1939 Register tells us Jim later worked as a "nightwatchman, supervisor".

At the time of his death in 1947 Jim was living at 33 Victoria Road, Edmonton, London, where he and his wife, Irene, had lived for many years.

James married Irene Muriel Alice HEAD, daughter of 'UNKNOWN' and Alice 'UNKNOWN', on 19 Dec 1922 in St. Edmund's Church, Edmonton, Middlesex. Irene was born on 8 Feb 1899 in 74 Bulwer Road, Edmonton, Middlesex. She died on 8 Aug 1978 in England.

The 1939 Register tells us that Irene was working at the time as a "clerk (stenographer and general clerking)".

63. Hanora (Nora) HUDSON (William HUDSON , Edward (Edmond) HUDSON , Margaret FINUCANE , John? ) was born on 9 Dec 1879 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She was christened in Dec 1879 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died on 21 Jun 1958 in Kilcara, Duagh, Co. Kerry. She was buried in Springmount Cemetery, Duagh, Co. Kerry.

Hanora married John D. BROSNAN, son of Daniel BROSNAN and Ellen SHEAHAN, on 24 Feb 1906 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. John was born about 28 Nov 1868 in Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 1 Dec 1868 in Athea, Co. Limerick. He died on 22 Oct 1929 in Lacca East, Kilmorna, Co. Kerry. He was buried in Springmount Cemetery, Duagh, Co. Kerry.

John and his wife, Nora, farmed in Lacca (also spelled Lacka) East, Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry. I have also seen their address given as Pilgrim Hill, Kilmorna, Co. Kerry, which is not strictly correct but is the address sometimes recorded for the family in church records. Note that Islandanny is not itself a parish or townland; rather it is regarded as the area that comprise the six townlands of Sluicequarter, Rea, Knocknacaheragh, Pilgrim Hill, Lacca East and Shronebeirne.

It is said that the Brosnans of Islandanny are descended from two Brosnan men (presumably related) from Castleisland, Co. Kerry who settled in Islandanny and ended up owing most of it. As the years went by, the Brosnan families sub divided their land between them to such an extent that at one point there were 17 Brosnan families living in Islandanny.

The nickname of John's branch of the Brosnan family is "Chawkes", the name originating with John himself. Apparently at the time there was a man by the name of Chawke who worked locally as perhaps an inspector of drains or something similar. One day, John saw Mr. Chawke walking down the street ahead of him and, wanting to speak to him, started calling out "Chawke, Chawke, Chawke...". People found this funny and from then on started calling him "Chawke"!

Although John was born in Duagh, he was baptised in Athea, Co. Limerick, the home parish of his mother, Ellen. It was common practice at the time to have the first-born child baptised in the mother's parish church. As the eldest child, John presumably inherited his family's farm in Lacca East.

John died at his home in Lacca East in 1929 aged 60, having suffered from chronic gastritis for about six months.

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses to the marriage were Jeremiah Brosnan and Helen Brosnan, both from Islandanny, Duagh, Co. Kerry.

Hanora married Daniel (Dan) KEANE, son of John D. KEANE and Margaret CORRIDAN, on 15 Feb 1947 in St. Brigid's Church, Duagh, Co. Kerry. Daniel was born on 19 Nov 1909 in Lisroe, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 20 Nov 1909 in St. Brigid's Church, Duagh, Co. Kerry. He died on 3 Jan 1996.

Dan's baptismal sponsors were Cornelius Keane and Mary Keane.

Dan's father moved the family from Lisroe to a small farm in Kilcara, also in Duagh, around 1923, and Dan eventually inherited this farm. In 1968 Dan sold the Kilcara farm to Dan Brosnan, a brother of his wife, Ciss, and he and Ciss moved to Bunaghara (also spelled Bunagara), Listowel, where they lived for the rest of their lives. They had no children.

Ned's baptismal sponsors were Michael Sheehy and Ellen Brosnan.

Ned never married.

64. Edmond (Ned) HUDSON (William HUDSON , Edward (Edmond) HUDSON , Margaret FINUCANE , John? ) was born on 20 Mar 1881 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 21 Mar 1881 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He died on 23 Dec 1969 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. He was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Ned's baptismal sponsors were Edmund Hudson and Bridget Hudson.

Ned and his wife, Hannie, were second cousins - Hannie's maternal grandmother was Johanna Hudson, sister of Ned's paternal grandfather Edmond Hudson.

There is a possibility that Ned and Hannie were actually doubly related in that Ned's maternal grandmother, Bridget Cunningham, could have been related to Hannie's maternal grandfather, Bryan Cunningham - a sister of his, perhaps. However, we do not know if Bryan had a sister named Bridget, although he did have a first cousin named Bridget, born in 1820 and daughter of his uncle Daniel Cunningham. Could this Bridget Cunningham possibly have been Ned's maternal grandmother, Bridget Cunningham? Unfortunately we do not have sufficient information on Ned's maternal grandmother to prove or disprove this.

Edmond married Johanna (Hannie) HANRAHAN, daughter of John HANRAHAN and Margaret CUNNINGHAM, on 13 Jan 1921 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. Johanna was born on 11 Mar 1891 in Kilbaha, Moyvane, Co. Kerry. She died on 7 Feb 1981 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. She was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Hannie was also known as "Hannie John Paddy" (because her father's name was John and her grandfather's name was Paddy).

Marriage Notes:

Witnesses to the marriage were Denis McEnery of Tubbertureen, Moyvane and Helen Hanrahan of Kilbaha.

Edmond and Johanna had the following children.

Kerry. She died on 28 Apr 1928 in Athea, Co. Limerick. She was buried in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane, Co. Kerry.

Sponsors at Bridget's baptism were Thomas Hayes and Honora Mulvihill.

Bridget was only 44 years of age when she died of heart failure. She had had previous heart problems but her death was unexpected and sudden. The youngest of her eight surviving children was just two years old. Her husband, James, later remarried.

Note: Bridget's aunt Johanna Hudson was married to Tom Hayes, a second cousin of Bridget's husband, James Hayes.

Bridget married James M. HAYES, son of Michael C. HAYES and Mary CORRIDAN, on 13 Feb 1909 in Moyvane, Co. Kerry. James was born on 2 Sep 1873 in Fairy Street, Templeathea, Athea, Co. Limerick.
