James TIDMARSH [Parents] was born about 5 Jul 1830 in probably Ratass, Tralee, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 5 Jul 1830 in Tralee, Co. Kerry. He died on 20 Nov 1873 in Newfoundland, Canada. He was buried in Anglican Cemetery, St. John's, Newfoundland. James married Georgina Anne FLOOD on 31 Jul 1873 in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin.

James qualified as a Master Mariner in London in 1857. He died aged 43, just four months into his marriage, when his ship, the Robert Lowe, ran aground near Placentia, Newfoundland. He and his crew had been laying cable between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, the final stage of a project linking Valentia Island in Ireland by underwater cable to Nova Scotia. Twenty one crew members survived but James and 17 others drowned. According to the New York Times of 24 November 1873, "Capt. Tidmarsh was on the bridge at the time of the disaster, perfectly cool, and took in the whole situation at a glance. He ordered the boats to be cleared away, and perished by sticking to his vessel to the last."

Georgina Anne FLOOD [Parents] died. Georgina married James TIDMARSH on 31 Jul 1873 in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin.

Marriage Notes:

James's address at the time of his marriage in 1873 was 191 Rathgar Road, Rathmines, Dublin; Georgina's was 121 Rathgar Road.

Francis EAGER died. Francis married Honora 'UNKNOWN'.

Honora 'UNKNOWN' died. Honora married Francis EAGER.

They had the following children.

F i Mary EAGER was born about 1750. She died in probably Dec 1840.

Edward FLOOD died.

He had the following children.

F i Georgina Anne FLOOD died.

John TIDMARSH was born about 1749. He died in probably Jan 1840 in probably Co. Kerry. John married Mary EAGER.

John is recorded in 1807 as an "inn holder". A John Tidmarsh was buried on 13 January 1840 in Kilcolman parish, Milltown, Co. Kerry. He was aged 90. I think it likely this was John above. The birth year given above has been calculated from his age at death.

Mary EAGER [Parents] was born about 1750. She died in probably Dec 1840 in probably Co. Kerry. Mary married John TIDMARSH.

A Mary Tidmarsh was buried on 14 December 1840 in Kilcolman parish, Milltown, Co. Kerry. She was aged 90. I think it likely this was Mary above, whose birth year I have calculated based on her probable age at death.

They had the following children.

M i Francis (Frank) Eager TIDMARSH died.
M ii James TIDMARSH (caution: relationship to John Tidmarsh and Mary Eager not verified) was born about 1790. He died on 10 May 1831.
M iii Alexander TIDMARSH died on 1 Oct 1872.

Alexander TIDMARSH [Parents] was born in probably Co. Kerry. He died on 1 Oct 1872 in probably Montreal. He was buried in Cimetière Mont-Royal, Outremont, Montreal. Alexander married Christiana COX in 1820 in Co. Cork.

Alexander worked in the drapery business with his brother Frank. It appears he was the Alexander Tidmarsh who went on to co-found in 1825 Benner & Tidmarsh, a distillery business in Ballymullen, Tralee and later a brewery, Cox and Tidmarsh, also in Ballymullen.

Cox and Tidmarch was co-founded with William Cox (could this have been the William Cox who married Sarah Hudson, sister of Alexander's probable sister-in-law Margaret Hudson who was married to Alexander's probable brother James?) but Alexander and William had a falling out over money, a court case ensued and by 1837 Alexander had left the company. He and his wife, Christiana, later emigrated to Canada and lived in Montreal. They may have had more children than Samuel below.

Note: Alexander's brother Frank was married Christiana's sister Mary.

Christiana COX [Parents] was born in probably Cork. She died on 3 Jan 1884 in probably Montreal. She was buried in Cimetière Mont-Royal, Outremont, Montreal. Christiana married Alexander TIDMARSH in 1820 in Co. Cork.

I have also seen Christiana's name spelled as Christina.

Frank was a wholesale woollen draper in Cork. He went bankrupt, however, in 1829. His brothers Alexander and James were also in the drapery business.

Frank's wife, Mary, was a sister of his brother Alexander's wife, Christiana.
