Synan MAHONY died before 6 Feb 1873. Synan married Ellen HUDSON about 1842.

Note: I have also seen Synan's name spelled as Synon and Simon.

Ellen HUDSON [Parents] was born about 16 May 1821 in Co. Kerry. She was christened on 18 May 1821 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. Ellen married Synan MAHONY about 1842.

Ellen's baptismal sponsors were Michael Gallivan and Ellen Gallivan.

They had the following children.

Michael MAHONY was born about 22 Feb 1843 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 24 Feb 1843 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

Mary Anne MAHONY was born in 1849 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

Mary Anne lived in Ballybunion. It is thought she never married.

Ellen (Ellie) MAHONY was born in 1855 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She died on 15 Jun 1899 in Killehenny, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She was buried in Killehenny Cemetery, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

Ellie's death record tells us she died of [what looks like "cirrhosis of spinal cord", from which she had been suffering for 13 years. Her age is given as 35, although it appears she was actually born in 1855 which would mean she died at the age of about 44, unless the Ellen born in 1855 had died as a child and another Ellen was born around 1864.

Edward (Eddie) MAHONY [Parents] was born in 1852 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Edward married Ellen 'UNKNOWN'.

Eddie lived in Ballybunion town.

Ellen 'UNKNOWN' died. Ellen married Edward (Eddie) MAHONY.


'unknown' BURNS died. 'unknown' married Honora WALSH.

Honora WALSH [Parents] was born in Ireland. She died. Honora married 'unknown' BURNS.

They had the following children.

Francis (Frank) William HUDSON [Parents] was born on 15 Aug 1875 in probably Chicago. He died on 2 Jun 1914 in Chicago. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, Illinois. Francis married Margaret A. DINAN on 31 Dec 1898 in Chicago. The marriage ended in divorce.

Shortly before his death Frank became co-owner of a garage business in Chicago. Bill Hudson's work 'The Hudsons of Ballyeagh' tells us that "In February of 1914 Frank William Hudson entered into an equal partnership with Harry L. Taylor in the Annex Garage on 5230-5236 Broadway Avenue in Chicago with the apparent title of “Manager.” A month later on 28 March an automobile which Frank was apparently driving was struck by a street car, throwing him from the car and causing serious damage to his lungs. After two months of medical care he was admitted to the Columbus Hospital in Chicago on 30 May and succumbed four days later, partly due to the injuries incurred in the accident". He was 38 years old.

Margaret A. DINAN [Parents] was born in Mar 1881 in Illinois. Margaret married Francis (Frank) William HUDSON on 31 Dec 1898 in Chicago. The marriage ended in divorce.

Margaret and Frank divorced in 1909.

Margaret Genevieve HUDSON was born on 3 Jan 1904 in 437 Evanston Ave., Chicago. She died on 21 Aug 1904 in Chicago. She was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, Illinois.

Margaret died at the age of seven months.

Thomas QUINN was born about 1840 in Ireland. He died in 1875 in Chicago. Thomas married Mary HUDSON.

Mary HUDSON [Parents] was born in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She died in probably Chicago. Mary married Thomas QUINN.

We know of Mary's marriages and children from the the last will and testament of her brother William (who died in 1901), which states the following:

"To my nephew Thomas Quinn of Toronto Canada son of my sister Mary Walters. Five Hundred dollars.
To my niece Nellie Quinn of Toronto Canada sister of said Thomas Quinn. Five hundred dollars."

They had the following children.

Nellie lived in Toronto.

'unknown' WALTERS died. 'unknown' married Mary HUDSON.

Mary HUDSON [Parents] was born in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She died in probably Chicago. Mary married 'unknown' WALTERS.

We know of Mary's marriages and children from the the last will and testament of her brother William (who died in 1901), which states the following:

"To my nephew Thomas Quinn of Toronto Canada son of my sister Mary Walters. Five Hundred dollars.
To my niece Nellie Quinn of Toronto Canada sister of said Thomas Quinn. Five hundred dollars."


Thomas WHELAN died. Thomas married Elizabeth HUDSON (caution: not verified) before 1832.

Elizabeth HUDSON (caution: not verified) [Parents] was born in probably before 1815 in north Co. Kerry. She died after 15 Oct 1834. Elizabeth married Thomas WHELAN before 1832.

Please note that it has not been verified that Elizabeth was a sister of Richard, although she was a sister of Edmund.

Richard's baptismal sponsors were James Dillane and Honora Walsh.

Elizabeth WHELAN was born in Oct 1834 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She was christened on 15 Oct 1834 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

Elizabeth's baptismal sponsors were John Stack and Margaret Connor.

Richard MAHONY [Parents] was born in 1844 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Richard married Ellen IRWIN on 24 Sep 1881 in Mahoonagh, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.

Richard lived in Ballybunion where he worked as a shoemaker. The 1901 census tells us Richard was blind. He would only have been about 55 years of age at the time.

Ellen IRWIN [Parents] was born about 1860 in Co. Limerick. Ellen married Richard MAHONY on 24 Sep 1881 in Mahoonagh, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.

Ellen was from Kilmeedy, Co. Limerick.

They had the following children.

Mary Agnes MAHONY was born in probably Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. She was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, Illinois.

Mary Agnes emigrated to the United States in 1898 and lived with her granduncle William Hudson and his family in Chicago. She, along with her mother and an uncle, were remembered in William's last will and testament:

To my niece Mary A. Mahony [mother of Mary Agnes above] of Ballybunion County Kerry Ireland, daughter of my deceased sister Ellen Mahony, One Thousand Dollars.
To my nephew Richard Mahony of the same place brother of said Mary. Five hundred Dollars.
To my grand niece Mary Agnes Mahony daughter of said Richard now residing with me. Five hundred Dollars.

Daniel MAHONY was born on 18 Nov 1884 in Killehenny, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died in probably U.S..

It appears Daniel lived in Chicago as the will of his uncle William G. Hudson provided his old friend Patrick F. Carroll with an amount "not exceeding Fifty Dollars a month towards rent and household expenses of maintaining a simple home for himself and my niece and nephew, Mary Agnes Mahoney and Daniel Mahoney and my son Frank, said Mary as long as she remains unmarried, said Daniel until he comes twenty one years of age".

Richard MAHONY [Parents] was born in 1844 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. Richard married Johanna STACK on 6 Feb 1873 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

Richard lived in Ballybunion where he worked as a shoemaker. The 1901 census tells us Richard was blind. He would only have been about 55 years of age at the time.

Johanna STACK [Parents] died before 24 Sep 1881. Johanna married Richard MAHONY on 6 Feb 1873 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry.

We do not know if Johanna and Richard had any children.


Daniel (Dan) IRWIN died.

He had the following children.
