Mike was the third Michael to be born to Dominic and Catherine, the first two Michaels having died as children.

Mike emigrated to the United States in 1891, probably with his sister Annie. He lived for about 10 years in Newport, Rhode Island where he worked as a coachman for George Peabody Wetmore at Chateau-sur-Mer, one of the earliest Newport mansions. Mr. Peabody Wetmore served as a governor of Rhode Island for two terms in the l880s and as a Senator from 1894 until 1913. The fact that Mike's first marriage, to Delia Sullivan in 1900, took place in Washington D.C. - at St. Stephen's Church on Pennsylvania Avenue, not far from the White House - indicates that Mike may have spent a good deal of time in D.C. during his employment by Mr. Peabody Wetmore. However, Mike appears to have left his job with the Senator not long after his marriage as his first child, Catherine, was born in New York City.

In New York Mike and his family lived at 16 Grace Court Alley, Brooklyn Heights, which was rented, before purchasing 308 East 39th St., in Flatbush, Brooklyn in late 1906. Mike had continued to work as a coachman when he moved to New York but, possibly because automobiles were replacing horses and carriages and the job of coachman was becoming obsolete, Mike was working as a railroad guard by the time of the 1920 census. By 1925 he was a conductor on the B.M.T. (Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit) subway.

Mike is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn with his second wife, Delia (Finan), their son, Francis, and Kitty, a daughter from his first marriage. In the same cemetery is the grave of his first wife, Delia (Sullivan), and their infant daughters, Annie and Elizabeth.

Delia FINAN was born about 1874. She died on 31 Mar 1934 in Brooklyn, New York City. She was buried on 3 Apr 1934 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York City. Delia married Michael (Mike) J. GORDON on 8 Dec 1907 in St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City.

Delia died of tuberculosis at the age of 59.

They had the following children.

Francis GORDON was born on 31 Jan 1909 in probably 308 East 39th St., Brooklyn, New York City. He died on 29 May 1934 in Brooklyn, New York City. He was buried on 1 Jun 1934 in Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York City.

Francis died of tuberculosis at the age of just 25. His death occurred only two months after that of his mother, who died of the same disease.

Michael (Mike) J. GORDON [Parents] was born on 21 Aug 1870 in Tibohine (Fairymount), Co. Roscommon. He died on 29 Jun 1944 in Brooklyn, New York.
