Clement worked as a stained glass artist. He moved to Youghal in the late 19th century, possibly to work for Michael Joseph Cunningham Buckley who had worked with Clement's brother Alex in London and who had set up a branch of his stained glass business in Youghal.

At the time of the 1901 census of Ireland, the widowered Clement was living on Friar St. in Youghal, Co. Cork with his 25-year-old daughter, Theresa. There is no trace of Clement or Theresa in the 1911 census although he spent the rest of his life in Youghal. He died in 1929 aged 85 at his home, 1 Gibraltar Terrace.

Michael HARNETT [Parents] was born about 1864 in Co. Limerick. He died on 9 Nov 1939 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. Michael married Mary MCCARTHY on 11 Feb 1899 in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

We know the name of Michael and his wife, Mary, from the U.S. marriage certificate of their daughter Kitty who married my relative Martin Monahan in 1927. We were then able to find out more about Kitty and her family. The information below on the children of Michael and Mary comes mainly from the 1911 census and the Irish Genealogy and Ellis Island websites.

Michael and Mary had 13 children, eight of whom emigrated to the United States. Of the eight who lived in the U.S. four were in religious life: Dan, Nora, Peter and a daughter whose name in religion was Sr. Agnes Regina and who lived in San Bernardino, California. However we do not know which daughter this was.

Mary MCCARTHY [Parents] was born about 1870 in Co. Limerick. She died on 7 Jan 1955 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. She was buried in Old Abbey Cemetery, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. Mary married Michael HARNETT on 11 Feb 1899 in Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

Mary was from Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick, as was her her husband, Michael. Mary had a sister who was a nun, Sr. Agnes Regina, who lived in Denver, Colorado.

They had the following children.

F i Mary HARNETT was born on 4 Feb 1900.
F ii Margaret (Maggie) HARNETT was born on 20 Nov 1900.
F iii Johanna (Hannie) HARNETT was born on 20 Nov 1900.

John HARNETT was born on 15 Apr 1902 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

John lived in Dromtrasna O'Brien (also known as Dromtrasna South), Abbeyfeale. Being the eldest son he presumably inherited the family farm. It is not known if he was married.
F v Catherine (Kitty) HARNETT was born on 1 Jul 1903. She died in probably early 1950s.
  F vi
Bridget HARNETT was born on 1 Nov 1904 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. She died in probably U.S..

Bridget and her younger sister Ellen emigrated to the United States together in 1927. Immigration records show that a 22-year-old Bridget Harnett and an 18-year-old Ellen Harnett from Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale travelled together to New York, arriving on 17 February 1927.

A Bridgie Harnett was a witness to the marriage of Kitty Harnett (Bridget's sister) to Martin Monahan in April 1927. This is likely to be Bridget.

Daniel (Dan) Patrick HARNETT was born on 17 Jul 1906 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick. He died on 17 Sep 1987 in probably Mobile, Alabama. He was buried in Catholic Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.

Dan attended Mungret College in Co. Limerick after which he studied for the priesthood at the American College in Rome where it is thought he was ordained. He moved to the United States in 1932 and became a U.S. citizen in 1938, at which time he was living in Mobile, Alabama. We know he served in St. Catherine's parish, Mobile from 1942 until 1959, being appointed monsignor in 1952, and in St. Mary's parish, Mobile from 1972 until 1982 (we do not know where he ministered between 1959 and 1972). Dan was buried in Mobile so we are assuming he served most, if not all, of his life in the U.S. in Mobile.

Julia HARNETT was born on 5 Oct 1907 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

Unfortunately we have no information on Julia. She may have died young as she is not mentioned in any obituary of her parents that I have seen.

Ellen (Helen) HARNETT was born on 9 Oct 1908 in Dromtrasna O'Brien, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.

Helen emigrated to the United States with her older sister Bridget in 1927. Listed on the ship manifest of a vessel arriving on 17 February 1927 are 22-year-old Bridget Harnett and 18-year-old Ellen Harnett from Dromtrasna O'Brien in Abbeyfeale.

Helen's Petition for Naturalization, dated 13 April 1937, tells us that Ellen was working at the time as a waitress and was living with her sister Kitty (Monahan) at 559 W. 172nd St., Bronx, New York.

Ellen may have later returned home as she is listed as a Mrs. Ellen Collins of Ballaugh, Abbeyfeale in a newspaper obituary of her father who died in 1939. Her eldest sister, Mary, was also married to a Mr. Collins and lived in Ballaugh so it could be there was an error in the obituary.
