John HAYES [Parents] was born in 1859 in Gortnaminch, Listowel, Co. Kerry. He died in South Africa. John married Honora (Nora) HUDSON on 5 Sep 1901 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

According to his mother's obituary (1898) John was living in Cape Town, South Africa at the time. He married in Ireland in 1901 and later returned to live in South Africa with his wife, Nora.

Honora (Nora) HUDSON [Parents] was born about 3 Dec 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. She was christened on 5 Dec 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. She died in Chicago. Honora married John HAYES on 5 Sep 1901 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Nora's baptismal sponsors were Edmund Carr and Johanna Nolan.

Nora, an only child, grew up at 24 Church St., Listowel, the address of her parents' drapery business.

In the late 1890s, after the deaths of her parents and prior to her marriage in 1901, Nora ran a public house 33 Church St. She is listed in the 1901 census as a 22-year-old publican, although she was actually 25 years of age at this time. The pub was in the hands of a Michael Keane by the time of the 1911 census.

After her marriage she moved to South Africa where her husband, John, had been living. According to Hudson researcher Bill Hudson's in 'The Hudsons of Ballyeagh', Nora and her sons (number unspecified but it appears to have been no more than two) moved to Chicago, where her uncle William G. Hudson lived, and the family settled there. Apparently there are no living descendants.

Mortimer HUDSON [Parents] was born about 4 Jan 1838 in Warren, Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He was christened on 6 Jan 1838 in Ballybunion, Co. Kerry. He died on 28 Mar 1884 in Listowel, Co. Kerry. Mortimer married Catherine (Kate) CARR on 9 Jan 1875 in Listowel, Co. Kerry.

Mortimer's baptismal sponsor was Margaret Dillane.

Bill Hudson's work The Hudsons of Ballyeagh, "Mortimer's father shared a little over 4 acres with two other men. Seemingly he died when Mortimer was in his teens and his widowed mother and unmarried children went to live with various relatives and friends. Mortimer Hudson apparently remained in the area with his older sister, Mrs. Ellen Mahony, and her husband, Synan Mahony, of the neighboring townland of Killehenny. Presumably he remained with the Mahonys until his brother-in-law's death [which occurred sometime before 1873]. In 1874 an Edmund Mahony became the responsible taxpayer of the Mahonys' Killehenny house. The change might have resulted in Mortimer moving to the neighboring townland of Ballybunion."

!After his marriage to Kate, the couple started up a drapery business located at 24 Church St., Listowel, Co. Kerry. Kate continued to run the business following
Mortimer's death from epilepsy in 1884 at the age of 46.

Kate died of “morbus cardis” and “cerebal embolism” at the age of 53.

The Kerry Sentinel published an obituary for Kate on 17 November 1897 which states she died on 8 November 1897 at her residence on Church St. The chief mourners were "Messrs P and J Sheehy, Ballyduff; J Sheehy, T Carr, P Long, T Nolan, R Mahony, P Sullivan (nephews of the deceased); J Carr, chemist, Tralee; N Hudson, M Hudson, J Horgan, P Wall, P D Griffin, J McKenna, T McAuliffe, the Misses Whelan, J Moloney, Michael Sweeney, J McMahon, J Cain, and - (sic) Farrell." It is possible the "N Hudson" is her daughter, Hanora/Nora, although it is surprising that she is not listed first.
